We are pleased to share with you that the 1st INNOLABS Ideas Contest Event for SMEs and Start-ups was successfully completed on the 2nd and 3rd of May at the Mobile World Centre in Barcelona. The contest was co-located with two large health events occurring on those dates, Health 2.0 and Healthio, that definitely made Barcelona he European Health Capital.
INNOLABS Ideas Contest was the first large public event bringing to light INNOLABS aim for leveraging cross sectoral capacity building between ICT, Health, Bio and Medical sectors to enable new emerging industries in personalized health.
On the 2nd of May, participants had the opportunity to build their networks and attend different training sessions, with the aim to improve their presentation and pitching skills on the occasion of the forthcoming INNOLABS Open Call (by Mid-June).
During the morning session, Dr. Dedeu, Director of the Agency for Health Quality and Assessment of Catalonia, introduced participants to current health challenges. After that, Jorge González from TicBioMed and José Manuel Castellano from Think Creative held the first training sessions on how to shape and communicate a clear value proposition and how to build and refine an idea, respectively.
In the afternoon session, Piotr Bucki hit the stage to deliver a training session on how to pitch in order to entice the audience, followed by Joaquin Soucheiron, from bwcon GmbH, who focused on financial aspects. To close the day, SMEs and start-ups had the opportunity to briefly present their ideas and projects to kick start a networking session where collaboration opportunities blossomed, meeting the objective of finding possible partners for the upcoming INNOLABS Open Call opening on the 15th of June.
In the evening, a Gala Dinner was organized at the Catalonia Eixample Hotel where companies could meet some investors and get to know each other in a more informal way. In addition, the 30 selected SMEs to pitch on the next day were announced.
On the 3rd of May, the Pitch Competition took place, where each selected SME had 5 minutes to pitch. After the 6 finalists had the possibility to do a one-minute pitch and answer questions from the jury, the three winners of the competition were:
First Prize of 17,500€ went to BLITAB, the world's first tablet for blind and visually impaired people.
Second Prize of 12,500€ went to MedicSen, personalized telemedicine to improve diabetes management.
Third Prize of 6,000€ went to Neuron Guard, a cooling portable device to reduce brain damage.
